This year there are many old and new clubs at MVHS. From the Equestrian team to Drama club, there’s something to suit anyone, if you take the chance to look. Here are some summaries of a few you might enjoy.

Now into its second year at Mountain View, Zumba Club has become a popular success. Run by sophomore Jami Smith, Zumba welcomes dancers of all ability levels. Zumba, a Latin inspired fitness program, is a great way to get exercise while having fun. They meet once a week to dance to both Latin and pop songs. Come and join old and new friends in the auditorium foyer Mondays from three to four-fifteen.

Mountain View also has the great advantage of holding a club called the National Honors Society, a partially exclusive club run by Mrs. Layne and Mrs. Romero. This student function is for people who care about their grade and their community. The Honors Society is recommended for those who have a GPA at or above 3.5, and those who need community service hours and something good to put on a college application. They meet every the second Tuesday of every month at lunch in Tuesdays in Layne’s room, and the club president Mckenzie Gillespie usually runs the meetings. Anyone fitting qualifications (and even some who don’t) are welcome, so come by Mrs. Layne’s room and feel free to participate.

If you like to get down and dirty (we mean it), then look no further than the Cyclocross team. Mr. Fox runs the team, which is a combination of students from high schools all around central Oregon. They meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at Northwest Crossing and races take place during the weekend. Either mountain or cyclocross bikes are required along with biking shoes and a helmet. If you wish to join, talk to Mr. Fox in B5 for more information.
