Varsity Lettering Requirements: Top 7 Boy or Girl in three races
Mountain View Cross Country, which in recent years has fallen out of both the spotlight and success within the IMC, is looking to make a turnaround with its new coaching staff. Scott Steinman, a math teacher at Mountain View, is starting his second year as head coach, with his wife, Carrie Steinman, as the team trainer. New to the coaching staff this year is Mike Larsen, who is trying to add a new aspect to the team: a focus on hard work and dedication. “If you’re not puking, passed out, or dying, you need to get up and freaking run” is Larsen’s motto for this year. The team, which trains both in the mornings and after school, is working hard to make a reputation for itself. And as the current rankings show the Mountain View girls 5th in the Oregon 5A school division, that certainly looks to be a possibility.
