Mountain View history was made in the beginning of November when the girl’s varsity soccer team made it to the Class 5A Championship match. Although they lost 1-0 in overtime, the girls gave our school reason to be proud, this is  the first time in our school’s history that the girl’s team has made it this far in the playoffs.

Mountain View’s long-time rivals, the Bend Lava Bears, were the other team to make it to the Championship. This game was especially important to our girls seeing as they played the Bears earlier in the season with a disappointing loss.

In preparation for the game, the main focus was consistency. “We were focused and really excited, but we tried to keep the normal routine so that we wouldn’t mess with our normal level of success,” said Head Coach Lindsey Peterson.

The game was held at Liberty High School in Hillsboro and many students rode the rooter bus up to the game to support their team.

Although the game ended 1-0 in overtime for the Bears, anyone in attendance at the game would agree that it was a very good match and both team played very well.

Both teams got in a fair amount of decent shots, and the match ended with Mountain View having four shots on goal compared to Bend’s three.

The first prominent shot of the game came from Mountain View’s Kodi Snider. a junior, when she got an open-net look but it was kicked wide right. Mountain View’s next shot came 20 minutes later from freshman Torie Morris on a breakaway but it was saved by Bend goalkeeper Emily Miller.

Bend’s first shot came in the 21st minute from Cori Ervin (who later went on to score the only goal of the game) in a missed free kick from 30 yards out. Later, right before half time, Bend’s Kelsey Corney headed a ball at the goal, but Mountain View’s Keeper, sophomore Amy Clason-Messina, saved it.

The game went into a 2-part overtime tied at 0-0. In the first overtime half, Bend got a free-kick from 25 yards out.
